In the West, Kayle-13 was guided by the seductive telepathy of the Heart of Eryndor. He directed the submerged arenas—coliseums of obsidian illuminated by emerald-green bioluminescence. Terrestrial humans fought in abyssal challenges: Abyssal Hunts, which were battles against amphibious automatons armed with energy blades; Tidal Mazes, which were crossings through tunnels flooded with scarce oxygen; and Deep Forges, where winners received implants that connected them to the underworld of the Heart.
